Scholarship clearinghouse websites
Has links to a variety of odd and unusual scholarships.
EXAMPLE: Applicants must (1) be thirteen years of age or older at the time of application, (2) be legal residents of the fifty United States or the District of Columbia, (3) be currently enrolled, or enroll no later than the fall of 2025, in an accredited post-secondary institution of higher education, and (4) answer the following essay question "Which superhero or villain would you want to change places with for a day and why?" (250 words or less)

Corporate scholarships
AES Engineers
This scholarship is not just for engineering students. It is open now and closes October 6, 2019.

Burger King
This scholarship opens October 15, 2018, and closes December 15, 2018. The program assists Burger King employees, employees' spouses or domestic partners, employees' children and high school seniors in the United States.

Taco Bell Foundation's Live Mas Scholarship
This scholarship opens November 12, 2018, and closes February 21, 2019. This scholarship awards millions of dollars each year and is for people not employed by Taco Bell. There is a separate Live Mas scholarship program for restaurant employees.

Organizational scholarships
AKSARBEN Scholarships, including Horation Alger State Scholarship
These scholarships are granted yearly to Nebraska and Western Iowa residents who have shown perseverance in overcoming adversity. Renewable for four years, the funding is matched by several Nebraska colleges, including Creighton, Bellevue, and Saint Mary's. Students submit a transcript, support form, parent; tax return, and proof of U.S. citizenship. Deadline is October 25, 2018.

Marianne Beel Scholarship
Offers a $500 scholarship to rural high school students who "have a heart for photography, writing, videography, or who keep a strong social media/online presence for their school publication or employer."

Blue Valley Community Action
This scholarship is open now and closes March 1, 2019.

Susan T. Buffett Foundation
This scholarship opens November 1, 2018, and closes February 1, 2019. It is specifically for those attending a Nebraska community college, a Nebraska state college, or a University of Nebraska campus.

Dual Credit support scholarship

Fairmont Alumni Association
Offers a $1,200 scholarship to high school seniors who live in the original Fairmont Public School District. Needs to be addressed to the Fairmont Public Library, PO Box 428, Fairmont, NE 68354. Deadline is April 1, 2019. More information yet to come.

Fairmont Community Club
Offers a $500 scholarship to a legal resident of Fairmont. The application requirements include resume, one letter of recommendation, and a personal essay that will be announced in the spring of 2019. Deadline will be early April, 2019.

National Future Farmers of America (FFA) organization
Some scholarships are for FFA members and some are available to non-FFA members. A few scholarships are posted on their website now, and others will be posted after November 15, 2018.

Fillmore County Foundation

Fillmore County Hospital Foundation
This scholarship is announced in The Nebraska Signal. More information to be announced later.

4-H Scholarships
Several scholarships are available to 4-H members through the Nebraska 4-H Foundation. Visit their website to find out which scholarships you may be eligible for. All scholarship applications are due March 1, 2019.

The Nebraska Association of County Extension Boards (NACEB) sponsors a $1,000 scholarship for a UNL College of Agriculture Sciences and Nuatural Resources (CASNR) or College of Education and Human Sciences (CEHS) incoming freshman or transfer student and a $500 schoalrshiop for current student sophomores or higher. Application deadline is March 16, 2019 and are reviewed by the respective Dean's office. See the Fillmore County Extension office for applications or go to the NACEB website.

Geneva Masonic Lodge
There is no formal application outside of the generic local scholarship paperwork the school guidance counselors at FC/EM/Shickley provides. Two $500 scholarships are awarded each year to students from Fillmore County. Masonic Lodge affiliation is not necessary. Applications are to be mailed or delivered to Jack Jacobs, 522 S. 9th St., Geneva, NE 68361. Deadline is April 15 of each year.

Geneva Rotary Club
There is no formal application outside of the generic local scholarship paperwork the school guidance counselor at Fillmore Central provides. Students who have parents in the Geneva Rotary Club and/or who are in Boy Scout Troop 175 take priority, although scholarships may be given to any Fillmore Central student. Applications are to be mailed directly to Geneva Rotary Club, PO Box 41, Geneva, NE 68361. Deadline is April 20 of each year.

Nebraska Aviation Trades Association
This one year, non-renewable scholarship is currently open, with a deadline of March 15, 2019.   A $1,000 and a $500 scholarship will be awarded to any high school senior or individual who is a resident of Nebraska continuing their education and a full time student.

Nebraska Society of Mayflower Descendants
You do not have to be a direct descendant. This scholarship is open now, and closes March 31, 2019.

NEST 529 College Savings Plan

P.E.O. Sisterhood
The national scholarship is the STAR Scholarship. Students have to apply in mid-September to the local chapter to be nominated (by the local PEO chapter) for the eligibility to apply for the national scholarship. The local scholarship is made available in the spring.

June Russell Scholarship
This $500 scholarship is from the General Federation of Women's Clubs (GFWC)/Nebraska Federation of Women's Clubs (NFWC). Application deadline is March 1 of each year. Eligible applicants must be a high school senior young woman who is planning to further her education at an accredited institution/college/university within the State of Nebraska. The young woman must be related to a GFWC/NFWC member. Applications are available from school guidance counselors, any NFWC member, or download here.

Sowers Club of Nebraska
Offers four scholarships, two are open to high school students.

James L. Stephenson Memorial Scholarship
Offers a $2,000 scholarship to a high school senior who is going into any agriculture-related field. Payment is sent after the first year of college classes when the scholarship committee receives proof of college attendance. This scholarship is usually announced in The Nebraska Signal and is available for download here.

These scholarships open October 1, 2018, and close January 15, 2019.

Mary F. Tous Charitable Foundation Scholarship
No formal application, but a narrative and other information must be submitted. Brochures with details are available at Heartland Trust Company, Geneva. Deadline to apply is March 1 each year.

Willa Cather Foundation
Three of the scholarships on this website currently apply to high school seniors.

Warren and Velda Wilson Foundation
This scholarship becomes available in December from school counselors ONLY, and due in February. Only 35 percent of any senior class is allowed to apply. Talk to your school counselor for more information or if you have questions.

Offers two different scholarships to high school students attending one of the three state colleges.

A November 13, 2017 article but the scholarships listed frequently repeat each year. Not all are open to high school students. Of interest to science fiction writers, horror writers, "Star Trek" fans, "Magic: The Gathering" fans, artists/illustrators, and animation creators.
